SpaceX's Starship rocket generated massive "mach diamonds" or "shock diamonds" during its recent test flight. The 33 Raptor engines of the rocket booster combined to create a perfectly formed mach diamond during liftoff. The unique appearance of the mach diamonds resulted from the close proximity of the engines and their effect on atmospheric pressure.
