I discovered this app a few days after writing this post. This is why I didn't mentioned it.

It's interesting that your messaging defaults don't include WhatsApp or iMessage. I don't think I know anyone who doesn't use at least one of these, if not both.

In my country, most people use Android, where there is no iMessage. And I think you have a better chance to connect with them through Meta's messenger or viber. (less than half of my contacts are on WhatsApp)

Out of curiosity, which country is this? I've lived in France, Singapore, India, United Arab Emirates and traveled to many other countries. WhatsApp seems like a default in every part of the world except the states. I agree on the iMessage bit though. It's a very US specific obsession.

(Not OP, but) In Norway, the iPhone/Android split is about 50/50, so no one cares about iMessage. And WhatsApp never had any traction, as everyone has a Facebook account - so the default here is Messenger. Sadly, I'll add, as it's a very mediocre app. 😅 I've worked to get most of my friends and family over to Telegram. It's the best app to use, and the privacy is good and the security _good enough_. (For instance, Signal has better security, but is worse to actually use. And the privacy/security of Telegram is at least better than Messenger!)
