MessengerPi, a DIY walkie-talkie and messenger system based on Raspberry Pi, is being financed through Kickstarter. It can send and receive text messages with a range of up to 3 miles, and as a walkie-talkie, a range of about 984 feet is possible. The MessengerPi uses LoRa radio standard for communication, supports 16 channels, allows data relay forwarding, and offers encrypted communication.
