20d[No Bullshit Mobile Games] Holedown - a delightful spectacle of bouncing
holedown.com
Holedown is simple: you aim your shot down a lane of blocks, you shoot, and you hope for the best.
The more your shot bounces around, the more blocks you can clear, the more you advance. Advancing nets you with cores, which you can use to upgrade, so you can advance more. Until you beat the game.
If it sounds boring, it’s because you’re reading about it instead of playing it. In practice, this game gets everything so incredibly right. It really feels delightful to play, and it’s the only mobile game I’ve ever “beaten” more than twice.
Bounce away!
(Holedown is available on iOS, Android, and other platforms.)

This is the first post in No Bullshit Mobile Games, a series where I’ll post a curated list of excellent mobile games here on Artifact.
Games featured in this series are:
- Uniquely suited for play on mobile devices.
- Completely devoid of coins, gems, crystals, or any form of bullshit in-game currency.
- Paid apps, part of a paid subscription, or free apps with one in-app purchase option that unlocks the entire game.
- Designed to give you a fun experience, not to manipulate you into getting addicted or spending money.
Follow me on Artifact to get to know the new games as I post them!

I thought this aesthetic seemed familiar and that's because I've been playing they're most recent game, Subpar Pool. I'll have to give this a go.

Wish I could try it without paying :(

Sorry, but this mentality is what got us to a point where mobile games are bullshit by default. Games used to be made to give players a good experience. But people started feeling like games should be free, and now they’re made to maximize in-app purchases and ad impressions.
It’s much better to pay a couple bucks and enjoy a genuinely good game.
