It's a big win for Google and Android.

It depends on what color Apple is going to use for RCS message bubbles. If it’s not blue…..

Is multicolor an option?

The article says it’s green

I see no reason for Apple to make RCS blue. RCS is not iMessage and iMessages is blue.

Never thought we’d see the day. At least not without government intervention. Huge win for Android and consumers generally. Unfortunately I’m sure iMessage will still be segmented and work better on iOS than RCS ever will.

this is huge for us droids, hopefully this puts less pressure on people when deciding what phone to buy, hope they get what they want, even if that's an Android. No one should buy a phone because of the bubbles your texts send in

Is Apple that Bridezilla who wants to throw a destination wedding in the middle of a bad economy? So, now nobody wants to go to the wedding?

I don't know what to think about big tech companies that don't do anything to stop discrimination among teenagers, it seems to me that it should be a simple yet effective thing to do
Praveen
Apple isn’t discriminating anybody. They provided green and blue colours to distinguish between an encrypted message and the unencrypted message. Signal did the same when they supported sms. Apple is not supporting Google’s RCS version because they know it will be then controlled by Google.

I didn't say that Apple discriminates, but, given that this distinction between green and blue lead to discrimination between teenagers, it can do something different to underline the difference between encrypted and unencrypted messages.
Maybe they can develop a new protocol in collaboration with Google in order to give everyone encrypted chat but without only one company controlling it.

Sorry. I misread your comment.

No problem, this is a place to discuss, isn't it?😉

RCS is just that. A standard for richer SMS like communication developed by a neutral 3rd party GSMA. Google has just chosen to prefer and push it on Android ecosystem for various reasons.

Implementing a non Google’s version of RCS is a brilliant move by Apple in my opinion.
