Ok this is pretty mind boggling. The ability to hum an idea and have it turned to music instantly. Or beatbox a rhythm and have it turned into a drum loop is so cool. I’m less enthusiastic about the “create a whole track in the style of (x)” functionality. But still fascinating. —— Google DeepMind announces Lyria, its most advanced AI music generation model, along with two AI experiments to enhance creativity in music. The Dream Track experiment allows creators to generate unique soundtracks using the AI-generated voice and musical style of artists like Charlie Puth and Demi Lovato. Google is also developing music AI tools and using SynthID technology to watermark AI-generated audio for identification and protection.

The interesting thing about this to me is that a lot of the creation of parts demonstrated here is usually done by humming a part to a musician. ‘Hey man, gimme a horn line like this in C…’ and then the person with the horn would just play it 🤷🏾‍♂️ 🎺

Right. Or you could hum it into a mic and Logic could convert it to MIDI notes which you could then assign to a synth/sampler. But this cuts out all those complicated steps and ideally adds the human inflection that a real horn player might do. Super cool! And I’ve been looking for something to change beatbox rhythms into real drum parts for 20 years
