Enrollment in non-English languages in US colleges dropped 16.6% from 2016 to 2021, with German, Arabic, and Modern Hebrew experiencing the biggest declines. Korean, Biblical Hebrew, and American Sign Language were the only languages that saw enrollment gains. The decline in language study reflects a shift towards STEM programs and could have long-term consequences for America's intellectual capabilities.
