You don't become obscenely wealthy without stabbing backs and poisoning poor people's air and water.

I think the most surprising thing was that the top 1% started at $140k USD. I shouldn't have been surprised, but it jumped out at me nonetheless.

It comes down to the buying power of that $140k though. If you live in San Francisco making that, you can't afford a house, and your apartment is probably the size of a small closet.
