Einstein's general relativity theory has been successful for over a century but has theoretical shortcomings. The theory predicts failures at spacetime singularities inside black holes and the Big Bang. Current theories of gravity alternative to general relativity, like scalar-tensor gravity, offer potential explanations for these shortcomings.
