Goal of the app: Social apps should prioritize connecting real friends over the entire world. Specific Quote (What’s Being Said): “Today’s social products have become overly complex and commoditized super apps that no longer serve the best interests of those who use them, but rather the advertisers that feed their top line.” - Michael Goldenstein, co-founder of Amo¹ Key Insight (What You Should Really Know): Amo, founded by Antoine Martin, former CEO of Zenly, aims to fix issues in current social networks by focusing on connecting real-world friends rather than a global audience¹. The Issue: Many social apps prioritize metrics like screen time and engagement, leading to cluttered, addictive, and impersonal products. Users often compete with brands and celebrities for attention, and these apps lack the depth of real-life relationships¹. Opportunities (Yes, But): There’s a demand for simpler, more meaningful social apps that enable connections with real friends. Companies like Amo are embracing experimentation, risk, and authenticity to meet this demand and create enjoyable, sustainable social experiences¹. Hey random social I’ve never heard of why should I HAVE to allow you access to my contacts. If I want to invite my friends I can do it manually you don’t need to harvest my data to grant me access.

Great point, and it seems to be the main point of frustration with recent app launches: https://artifact.news/l/_hIQKMoOIyc= I see both sides. I also anticipate that as long as the app can offer you— the user— enough value as soon as possible, than it’s fine. This app for example is very dependent on your close friend being a part of your group. For other scenarios, it’s just a growth hacking tactic. I think it’s product or app specific.

Yeah it’s as if Pinterest was remade by the Snapchat team today. I think people want more personalized and immersive experiences.
