21dThe best browser in the world
arc.net
For those of you who still haven’t tried, I honestly can’t recommend it enough.
I was a die-hard Vivaldi fan until I tried Arc, used it a day or so, and then never looked back.
Their team is amazing and something the internet isn’t lately: fun and quirky!
Also, they have the absolute best AI features: no hype just actual tools that are useful everyday.
Give it a try!

I'm on the waiting list. I'll try it when it comes to Windows or Linux.

I’ve been using Arc for months. Take the time to get to know it and it blows chrome out of the water.

One feature I use a lot is the mini browser used to preview link so i dont have to keep opening and closing tab/window

no source code, no love from my side

Which browser does provide? And I’m genuinely curious: is it bc of security? Do you fork projects? What do you do? (Im slowly getting into OSS)
Tony He
OSS usually means better security and privacy imo. You can see the code, which means everyone can spot the errors in the software and raise an issue / contribute.

exactly this ☝️
Firefox, Chromium, Midori, Epiphany... those are truly FOSS browsers. there are many more like libre wolf and such forks, but you get the point

Santi
Arc uses Chromium. But I would prefer for it to use gecko.
Vasilj Milosevic
using chromium doesn't directly mean it's open source. most chromium forks are not FOSS. for example Edge, Chrome, even Vivaldi is partially FOSS
Santi
Oh I know. Was just referring to the engine.

I don’t understand all the hype behind Arc. Not much in the way of ads are blocked. The setup is odd. I don’t know. I don’t get the love it gets ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
1
Santi
That thing you think is odd is its selling point. I was weirded out in the beginning and now can’t go back!
Showing or not showing ads shouldn’t be a feature: it’s fairly easy to install a blocker.

On the mobile app? Haven’t seen a way to do that
Santi
Oh I meant the desktop. You’re right about mobile.
Santi
2023 and people still using Chrome. It’s crazy!

Awesome. However: two words missing for a full switch: Default iOS.
1
Santi
I don’t like their current iOS solution. They’re purposely hindering it. But apparently 2024 will be full on mobile! 🙏🏻🤞🏻

Just tried it today. Tbh nothing extra compared to chrome. I’d go for brave if I wanted more privacy for personal stuff but Chrome still remains the go to for work related

I agree, I don't see the problems Arc is trying to solve. And performance is far far from chrome. Brave thesedays are too bloated imo with all the crypto features. Try Firefox (Hardened)!
2
Santi
Brave is so overhyped and dishonest in its value proposition.
And Firefox is fantastic! Especially its web rendering engine.

If you're "just browsing" you're also probably missing its main features. The Max package, Spaces, Little Arc, Easels, etc.
Plus, battery/energy management is MUCH better as well. There's a lot on their project worth appreciating in more details.
Cold comparisons may miss these entirely.

you should try to use it for longer. i made a full “tutorial” in a post of mine, hope it helps. once you get used to it, you’ll never go back. https://artifact.news/posts/p/1492813167585099535?s=1388660012178593001

Vivaldi is the best, not arc
1
Santi
I used to think the same. Come over to the fun side. 😜 (jk of course - Vivaldi will always have a place in my heart)

Vivaldi is not the best if not the worst according to https://privacytests.org

You know somethings wrong when someone claims it’s the best browser in the world as it has zero market share. It was so bad I uninstalled it, especially that jarring sidebar and cluttered menu.
macro
so linux sucks because its market share is tiny? your logic makes 0 sense. its less uncluttered than any other browser out there, you’re just downplaying it for the sake of it.
Sephiroth Hojo
Why are you assuming he means Linux? He is most likely talking about arc browser, which as you know is only on MacOS. Everyone is going to have different opinions.

Santi
Ummm… ok. There’s definitely “something wrong”. Happy Friday!

would love to try, hopefully it'll release on windows

If they had a mode that didn’t require an account I might try it. From outside it looks like Evernote for the web.
Santi
Not at all. Why Evernote? 🤔 But I get not wanting to create an account.
