Crashes involving high hood height vehicles are 45% more likely to result in a fatality, according to a report by the IIHS. The increase in SUV and truck size and height has contributed to the pedestrian safety crisis, with fatalities at a 40-year high. The NHTSA needs to update its safety ratings to account for vehicle design, as larger vehicles pose a greater risk to vulnerable road users.
